On February 10, 2026, our club hosted a Capping Ceremony and check presentation at Burrowes Elementary School to celebrate students from SWAN (Scaling Walls A Note at a Time) — a Lancaster-based music and mentoring program serving children who have an incarcerated parent.
During the event, SWAN students performed for guests, were individually recognized for their service to the community, and received custom knit winter hats from Rotary donors as a symbol of encouragement and care. Club members also presented a check to support the ongoing work of the SWAN program.
This event marked another milestone in a partnership that began at Lancaster Central Market, where SWAN students sang holiday music while Rotary members rang bells for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign. When Rotary members realized some students were performing without adequate winter clothing, the community responded — coordinating with the School District of Lancaster and the Salvation Army’s Coats for Kids program to ensure every student had a winter coat. This year’s hats and funding extend that commitment even further.
The ceremony brought together Rotary members, donors, SWAN leadership, educators, and community partners to celebrate what is possible when organizations unite around children.
Through music, mentorship, and shared service, Rotary Club of Lancaster and SWAN are helping students build confidence, belonging, and hope — one note at a time.
